Coach Broe currently serves as the head XC and assistant track coach at Wellesley High School. The Raiders have garnered remarkable success since his arrival two years ago. In his first cross country season as head coach, Broe helped mentor one athlete to his first All State title and the Raider team to a 5th place finish, the highest placing in school history. A year later, the Raiders returned to the MIAA All State Championship and took home their first state title in program history. This success transferred to the track where both the boys and girls teams broke the school 4x800 records last spring, running 7:55 and 9:28 respectively. Coach Broe was recognized as the 2015 Boston Globe Cross Country Coach of the Year and the 2016 MIAA Cross Country Coach of the Year.

Along with his duties at WHS, Broe is also the head coach of the Freedom Track Club, a Saucony-sponsored group of national-caliber post-collegiate runners training in the greater Boston area. The roster boasts many prospects for the 2020 Olympic team, including Ben True, one of the best distance runners in American history. True has garnered incredible success under Coach Broe’s guidance, earning a 6th place finish in the 5k at the 2015 World Championships, multiple USA road titles and a 6th place finish at the 2013 World Cross Country Championships.

Coach Broe himself was a world-class distance runner. After winning the NCAA steeplechase title his senior year at the University of Alabama, he moved to Ann Arbor, MI to help coach at the University of Michigan. Broe made significant improvements under the tutelage of long-time UM head coach Ron Warhurst. During his 5 years as a professional runner, Broe gathered 10 national titles. He was a 3x USA national cross country champion, 2x USA road champion, 2x USA indoor champion, and 3x USA outdoor national champion. In 2002, Coach Broe broke the American indoor 3k record at the Boston Indoor Games. That 21-year-old record was held by USA distance legend Steve Scott and was the longest standing American record at the time. In 2004, he won the USA Olympic Trials 5,000 meters, which qualified him for the Athens Olympic Games. He went on to finish 11th in Athens. Coach Broe still holds the USA Outdoor Championship 5k record of 13:12.76. His personal bests include: mile - 3:58, 5k - 13:11.77, 3k steeplechase - 8:14.
