Hailing from Algeria, Coach Morceli has guided three Olympic champions in middle and long distance races. The most popular was former RCC, National Junior College, Olympic record and World record holder Nourreddine Morceli. Coach Morceli worked with his brother and together they produced seven world records and four world champion titles.

As well as coaching his brother to greatness, Coach Morceli has also worked with many world-class athletes, including 2000 Sydney Olympics 1,500-meter champion Nouria Merah, and Belout Aissa and Hacini Adem, Mediterranean Champions at 5,000 meters and 800 meters, respectively. He has coached two All-Americas and seven All-State athletes while at RCC. Morceli also coached the 2008 800-meter state champion, Stephen May.

His running success came at an early age. By the age of 17, he ran 3:45 in the 1500 meters, 1:49 in the 800 meters, and 14:30 in the 5,000 meters. That same year he was the 21st fastest junior in the world at the cross country championships in 1976. The following year - at the age of 18 - he finished third at the World University Games and fourth in the World Games in the 800 and 1500 meters in Mexico.

He went on to become a world-class competitor in the late 1970s-early '80s. Morceli was an Olympic qualifier at 1,500 meters in 1980 and 1984. He won the 1977 Africa Championship at 1,500 meters and the 1979 Mediterranean Championship at 1,500 meters. Coach Morceli has a fourth-place finish to his credit at the 1977 World Cup Championship in Dusseldorf, Germany. His best times include a 1:44.71 in the 800 meters, 2:17 at 1,000 meters, 3:36.26 in the 1,500 meters, and 3:54 in the mile.
