Ankle Mobilization--Subtalar Swing

While many have seen the "leg swing" exercise as a hip mobility drill, it is perhaps even better to ensure that your foot and ankle mechanics are on par.  When the calcaneus is stuck in inversion, your foot must overpronate to contact the ground and in the process may not be able to become rigid enough for a powerful push off.  This overpronation can lead to increased stress or even injury to the plantar fascia and achilles tendon at the end or even a gamut of problems up the chain including ITBS, hip injuries, and even low back pain.

It is critical to keep your heel in contact with the ground and allow a gentle glide toward the midline and away from the midline of your heel.
